The Ranch Fairy may be a bit whacky but he has done wonders for the industry.

This a an awesome setup for those of you coming to Africa and are not sure what to bring – in Africa are animals are tough to kill and this will get you set on your way to finding the right equipment.

With Out Hesitation I recommend this product

This kit made it so easy to work through the process. With the ethics pack of field points and the 2 ea. arrows of the 2 different spines I was able to figure out exactly what spine/broadhead combination that fly’s perfectly from my bow.

    3. Shane Grennan (verified owner)

I don’t normally do reviews but I will have to say that this kit is impressive. Took under an hour to figure out the best setup for my bow and will be ordering another kit for my sons as well. Have even referred the kit to friends as well. Great job to Sirius and ranch fairy.

This is a great investment of $100. You want to get perfect arrow flight, learn about your bow, your arrow, and cause and affect? THEN BUY A KIT. GIVE YOURSELF A MONTH TO EXPERIMENT AND ENTERTAIN YOUR CURIOSITY. THERE IS NO DOWNSIDE. USE COOL MELT TO MAKE IT EASIER.

My experience from local shops is biased toward choosing a faster / lighter arrow. This was confirmed just recently when purchasing new bows (2), that left the shops shooting bullet holes with a fletched arrow. I was in the process of doing my own learning (reading Ashby supplemental reports, video content, and using my own reasoning) and coming to the conclusion that I wanted to explore the heavier setups.

Basically for my $200, I ended up getting another test kit to get stiffer spine arrows, I took away the following:
      – learned about my bows and setting up a bow, one bow just a small rest adjustment and I’m getting bullet holes with a couple of different configurations, the other bow, everything tear was stiff, even with an under spine arrow, so I learned the bow needed to be put back to “square or zero the cams” then start the process over. It worked! Bullet holes.
      – My shooting form / shot process got real tight. Shooting thru paper so much at 7 yards was great practice working the process and aiming.
      – I am on my way to perfect arrow flight with the bare shaft bullet holes. I have shot the bare shafts our to 30 yards. Just need to build up setups and tune with broad heads.

So I had 2 different new bows (PSE EVO EVL 34 and Bowtech Revolt XL) shooting a bullet hole when they left the shop. Well after removing the fletching and shooting the arrow thru paper guess what? No bullet holes! Remember one bow the cams where “wonky” where every arrow setup would tear stiff.

So then I think why is this process at archery shops? Why is the thinking different from the rifle community where most everyone leans towards high ballistic coefficients (which in a caliber is the long skinny or “heavier” bullet) when getting their rifle setups? Watch Troy’s / Ranch Fairy’s videos with the “Rocket Man”. It is math, science, and physics.

      Excellent product and value.
      Peace

The customer service at Sirius is next level. I scheduled a call with a technician. He called exactly at the scheduled time. Listed to all my concerns and answered my questions. Call was less than 10 minutes and I had more answer than I had questions. I don’t think their customer service can be beat.

Was definatley worth the money. You get to try 2 different spines with 5 different tip weight in each spine to find your best combination. I recommend paying for the spine alignment on this kit so you can see if your bow likes to shoot better spine down or spine up. Serious recommends spine up, but try spine down just in case your bow likes that better.
Also, set your rest back to factory center shot before doing your test so you find the arrow/tip combinations that your bow likes at it’s default tune.
Once you find what spine and tip weight work, you just get the inserts to the weight that adds up correct with whatever broadhead weight you shoot and adjust your rest slightly to fine tune if any tuning is even needed. This is something you only really have to do once and then you know exactly what spines and front weight combinations your bow likes.

      I shoot a Hoyt Ventum Pro 30
28.5″ draw length, 70lb draw, and had the shafts cut to 28.5″. I was temped to go down to a 26.5″ length, but when you test fate with broadheads, sooner or later, your going to slice your finger. You get 1/2″ extra length from the outsert/sleeve combo on the end of your shaft.

I found my bow liked the 300 spine 100gn insert/sleeve with the 125gn & 150gn points, (finished fletched arrow weight 530-550gn and 18-19FOC.
My bow loved the 250 spine 100gn insert/sleeve with the 200gn point (finished fletched arrow weight 635gn and over 20%FOC) The 250 spine didn’t like any of the lighter points, just the 200gn.

Now I just order 300 spine arrows with the 100gn insert/sleeve and know I can shoot 125gn and 150gn broadheads. If I want a heavy arrow in the future, I just order the 250 spine arrow with 100gn insert/sleeve and throw a 200gn broadhead on it.

A very good comment from Ranch Fairy. “You don’t bend a rifle barrel to make your bullet shoot good. You choose the bullet that shoots good in your rifle.”

I found that the test kit worked just as advertised.
My bow is a Mathews Heli-M 29″ draw and is set at 63 pounds. According to the spine calculator this bow should require a 200 spine arrow with a 200 grain point and a 250 spine shaft with a 150 grain point. I wanted to go pretty heavy for my my elk hunt this September. I’ve killed quite a few elk with my recurve, longbow and compound bows over the last 30 years here in Arizona with a wide variety of arrow weights and broadhead styles, both fixed and expandable. The last two elk I killed with expandable broadheads went down within sight but I also lost two due to low shoulder hits that failed to penetrate the vital organs.
My desire is to wind up around 650 grains and 20% FOC using a single bevel two blade broadhead. I call the elk in and they are mostly quartering to me shots.
When I started testing I simply squared my bow up for a level center shot and aligned my yokes for a centerline string travel and started shooting. It all came together with a 250 spine shaft and the 200 grain point with the 100 grain insert. Which is exactly where I hoped it would be. This combo shoots perfect bare shaft bullet holes through paper at 21 feet and groups very tight even at 30 yards with bare shafts. I’m now ordering another dozen shafts and broadheads for final broadhead tuning with a couple of months left before my hunt. These are deadly accurate, quiet shooting arrows that give me great confidence.

Ordered the test kit 250/300 spine, with the High FOC field points, (100g to 200g).
      Mathews V3 31, 70#, 29″ Draw.
Followed the Ranch Fairy video and shot through the kit. Had a couple questions and asked Mr. Fairy Himself which certainly helped. This process does take a little time so be patient and document how each of the spines and different point weights change the arrow flight.
After a few sessions (yes, I did this test 3 times, for my own purpose) I landed on the 250s, 200g points. were the best for my set up with the 300s, 125g points the next best.
The Apollo arrow help up great in texture and outside quality.
I ordered the Apollo EZ Button Ranch Fairy set up and will leave a separate review for those.

If you’re looking to test arrow flight for your set up, Sirius and RF make this set up easy and worth the investment.

Last year, I spent more on a different brand and never had a solid flying arrow/broad head match and after following the test kit, I feel it was because the broad head weight was too light, anyway, GO WITH SIRUIS, its worth it.

    9. TYLER POLING (verified owner)

Do your research, thoroughly. Listen to what Troy has lead everyone here for. You’ll end up putting in way more work than the standard thought of 340 spine, 100gr broadhead. But in doing it how the Ranch Fairy says – you’ll shoot the best arrow setup you’ve ever had. You’ll handload, and understand your arrow.
Bowtech CP28, 28″ Axle to Axle, 28″ Draw. 70# on Speed Mode
Ended up with 250 Spine arrow 28 1/2″ Carbon to Carbon w/ 275gr up front .635 gr finished total arrow.

    10. Johnathon Arnold (verified owner)

I ordered the test kit and I was a bit apprehensive at first since I’ve never done anything to my bow myself. I’m very glad I did. The customer service from Sirius was great, and I had a few hiccups with my bow so I emailed Troy Fowler and he responded pretty quickly. (who else does that?) Within two emails and a few days of fooling around, I had a few combos giving me bullet holes bare shaft. These guys are legit, if you’re scared to tinker, don’t be, they won’t leave you hanging. I ordered my ez buttons and that was easy as well. It takes time, but it’s worth it.
